now my car isn't a VR-4 or Mitsubishi, but I figure you guys are the kind to have worked on your own cars before you had one

my car seems to lose power at high rpm, like about 4000+ rpm, almost as is it isn't getting fuel, it's so sudden it just jerks you forward in your seat and the engine sounds like its choking and spitting
it gets MUCH worse when the fuel tank gets below half empty and it starts happening at 2.5-3000 rpm from then on

now I've recently had work done on the car
I've had a new transmission
New (reco'd) head with brand new valves put on
New gaskets EVERYWHERE
New timing chain guides
And a new fuel pump (just put in yesterday)
I've also done a service on it, new oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs and fuel filter, just in case it was a filter clog or something

but still does it

any help would be appreciated

Brodie, what kind of car is it?

also with the fuel pump, is it oem or aftermarket?

when you say it moves you forward from your seat.. does it feel violent?

It's a mazda B2600
not sure, the mechanic found and fitted it so I guess oem

Yea violent, but not extremely so
Was gonna replace the MAF and fuel pressure regulator when I get back in town
as it sometimes does feel like a couple tines I drove it without the MAF plugged in

But it's just a pain in the ass as it never did it before the reco'd head went on

I reckon Naughtika's on to something there...hitting a threshold in ECU and causing fuel/ign cut maybe.

Get a wideband on it, check for error codes, log some data.

How would I go about that?

my dad's got the same car but I don't recall him experiencing the same thing as you're experiencing..

is it possible that your distributor's 1 or 2 teeth advanced?

also as per Volk's initial suggestion, try getting it back to the mechanic, also ask what kind of pump was used.. I doubt he'd use oem as it'll be about $200 or so..

I don't know, maybe out of whack
The pump was about $160 after labor
it was doing it before the pump was replaced, but I replaced the pump cause it was buggered and wouldn't start

I'll be looking further into it when I get back into town, but was hoping you guys might shine some light in the situation is all
Will check the timing and everything when I get back
Thanks for everybodies suggestions and help

Probably the fuel filter mate, it is always overlooked.

took it to another place where a mate works
turns out it was shoddy work putting the head on by the previous place I took it for a head swap
it was improperly torqued and the pressure made at higher revs was working against the improperly torqued areas, allowing pressure to escape while also letting oil leak into it and out past the gasket
which explains why it was chewing oil and spitting it out the exhaust

Yea, having head taken off to check for any engine damage, if not then just gonna redo the job
If there is just gonna get a second hand engine with less k's and swap it in
