Grandpa Sick :-(

Took the car this morning to Bridgestone Tyre Centre as it was the best placed one to go to with my limited time for a wheel balance/alignment....

Guy comes back after 5 mins & says the front driveshaft has had it & urgently needs replacing. They actually requested that I do NOT drive it even back to the motel I'm staying at.

I was curious about a thudding noise I was getting when turning corners in the Legnum so booked it in this morning before I drive 3.5hrs up to Rainbow Beach tomorrow. The guy said I'd be lucky to get it back to Aspley from Strathpine with the condition its in.

Also need 4 brand new tyres too. The BF Goodrichs have finally worn away.

Had to get a lift to Thrifty & now driving an Aurion for the next week while the car rests at Bridgestone awaiting inspection on Monday to see what the mechanic says & try to source parts plus fit new tyres (Bridgestone Turanzas ?)

Let's all pray we're back on the road soon..... oh BTW I'm actually in QLD but thought posting here would be better as the Grandpa legend is more well known there hehe....

Not sure Gorgs. They were just doing an oil change (regular service). The thudding noise I didn't get until I got up to QLD. So that's about 1000kms or so later.

Nah I haven't looked Brad, haven't got time I'm working 12 hours today. Their mechanic isn't back on duty until Monday so they'll call me then to sus out the situation..

But I might be PMing you on Monday if the situation is that bad & we can't source anything...

Well I haven't seen the wife for weeks mate so there's plenty of juice in the tank if you know what I mean

Just means that the mod fund (i.e. the credit card) has to be raided instead.

I'd drive the Super Dawso, if it weren't over 1000kms away !

Feels funny driving the Aurion. It's so quiet compared to the Leggy. Nice engine though I must say I like it. But too old-ish for me... hehe a REAL Grandpa car !

The Aurion is deceptively fast. I had one as a hire car and it surprised me with its turn of (straight line) speed.

In various acceleration tests, the Aurion spanks 6 cylinder Commonwhores, Foulcans etc.

0-100 in the high 6's, which isn't too shabby for a FWD repmobile! Will give a standard Galant / Legnum a run for the money if we're not on top of our game.

No idea there Brad. The only 4 words I now remember from him are "driveshaft...worn....cannot.....drive..."

The Aurion is whisper quiet, but obviously doesn't launch like a Leggy. It does have grunt though. Overtaking is good. Good engine I reckon, but it has that horrible staggered shift column that is also in the latest Corolla. I HATE IT !

It's got a foot handbrake too. Had that last in my 1994 Mazda 929.

NOT YET ! I can't afford to.

I am eventually replacing it for a diesel Hyundai i30 wagon, but we're 12 months away on that still.

Hoping to hit 250,000kms !

The Aurion is quieter in EVERY respect. I have to keep reminding myself it's FWD though. I keep wheelspinning ! It's a real nice car, if I were 50+ years old.

Do you have an opinion of the Turanzas ?

Haven't had Turanzas before Wayne. Had the BF Goodrichs for over a year & they did 60,000kms. I do recommend them never had any problems with grip in dry or wet. BF Goodrich G-Sport Max. $230-ish per tyre. The Turanzas are more expensive, but it will cost me more in labour to take it somewhere else just to get cheaper tyres.

The Grandpa should be fine by next Monday when I go pick it up. They managed to find the part & it should be there tomorrow.

Hmmm.... Bridgestone rang me today to say there's more wrong with the poor Leggy...

I think it was tie rods this time ... I can't remember exactly now as I was grocery shopping when they rang me. Was more concerned with finding fruit juice hehe ... just told to do whatever it takes to have the car ready to rock & roll for Monday.

I remember the driveshaft was $400-something ... tyres are costing around the $280 mark per tyre. Plus all the extras.

Won't really know until I get back there on Monday. Didn't WANT to know until I got there anyways as I have enough on my plate as it is already...

Hey, that pricing is actually not too bad at all.
Do our cars share the same driveshaft of something Australian delivered? Perhaps an AWD Magna?
