Hey guys,

Names Ant from Perth WA. Fallen in love with the VR4 having been an evo fanatic but unfortunately its out of my price range. I need a new car to replace my 245k 6th Gen celica. My mate from work told me about the VR4 and hopefully if all goes to plan I can figure out the best way to acquire and 8th gen. This would be my first performance car and hopefully the beginning of a new addiction that I've been holding off getting into due to the cost... .

Great place to start Ant, VR4's are lots of fun and go like stink :D Have a look around the site to get an idea of what sorta money you'll need to purchase plus servicing etc.

All our in house importers are always happy to answer questions relating bringing one in from Japan, but then again, there are quite a few for sale here and now. So many choices!

Good luck and keep us up to date.

Steve.

My VR4 was my first performance car ('97 323, then '04 Liberty)..

I'll tell you what, this car is such a perfect first performance car! Lots of power and potential for a heap more, smooth clean power instead of that kick you back-lose control type performance..

Great size car, beefy motor, AWD, etc etc.. Trust me, you'll love one :)

Sure, petrol prices SUCK but it is something you'll be able to afford and such, and definitely worth it :)

All the best with finding the perfect ride! Talk to Ironchef or anyone about bringing one over, or shop around locally.. You'll be sure to find something sweet.. :)

Alright so I walked into Freo Auto Imports looking for a Black(or darker color) Manual and ended up putting a deposit on a Facelift Auto Pearl White Type S Legnum.... I literally fell in love with this car when I drove it. Has the straight black trim I wanted, sunroof and just feels as good as new. I loved the feel of the A/T and just think it would be more appropriate for everyday driving I just hope its not going to be have any major issues with the A/T.

Did end up getting an RAC report on the car and all that was found wrong with it was a Tranmission fliuid leak(but no noticeable issue with the tranmissions) and the idle pully bearing needs replaced.

Stuart from Freo Auto Imports has been good so far having agreed to fix the issue and after some discussion agreeing to pay a follow up inspeciton... He also agreed to install a Turbo Timer for: $free

Champ so far. See how it goes can't wait to finally own the car.

I know it's a bit extreme getting an RAC inspection but if I'm spending the $$$ I'd rather know I'm getting something with little or no issues.

Damn I'm pumped.

You must've gotten the "Car of the Year" edition then if it's the black leather interior.

Ant, welcome to the forums mate. EVOs are in another league but these VR4s are damn fun, believe me!

You see that's the thing what I really wanted was black paint job but i fell in love with a pearl white auto(although I wanted a manual.. now i don't) just loved it such a perfect car.

The interior is velor(i hate leather) however it doesn't have the woodish v(that I hate) it has the black trim.

Sounds similar to when I bought my car, initially looked for a White, Auto Legnum and bought a Purple, Manual Galant :D Well done on the car Ant, glad your happy with your purchase. Looking forward to seeing it at the next meet.

Not if it's a facelift

Yeah only the inverse almost the pearl white really shines :) I'm pumped up for getting the car and can't wait to be at the next meet. Only downside is I need to wait to sell my old car until I can get a new stereo system(music is my all time top passion so this is a must apart from the oil cooler)

Excellent, glad you finally found one u liked. Pics mate!

I originally wanted a black manual galant.... waited, nothing. Then I thought any colour manual galant... waited.... then any colour manual leggie.... waited and then I found my blue leggie for less than $10k, so I took it.

Welcome to the forums Ant and have fun gettin the keys to your VR4, it's a damn fun experience. Have a read on the forums about leaking auto trans. It may be the torque converter seal at the back of the transmission. If it IS the torque converter seal it is a fault that will need to be fixed quickly. Check around here for more info and make sure the trans hasn't been damaged.
Badly serviced/neglected auto trans are known to fail on the VR4's, a full auto trans fluid flush of SPIII trans fluid should be done soon after you get the car to remove any wrong spec fluid. Sorry if I make you a bit paranoid but a few of the guys have had transmissions die, not a cheap thing to happen so making sure it's sweet when you buy is important so you have no worries later.

Hahah now I'm paranoid, fortunately the dealer is going to investigate and repair however would you guys recommend having another mechanic look into it - have a full trans flush + amsoil + trans cooler + a look over?

I've had the A/T die on me in my Celica and that wasn't a very pleasant experience at all.

Torque converters common, so as long as it's fixed and you can't feel any other problems in the trans on a long drive you should be fine. I bought my Auto a few months ago and only took it for like a 15min drive (bad move), got it home and the trans started shuddering in certains scenarios so I was pretty spewin. Luckily a full fluid flush sorted it out and it shifts perfectly now. Was not looking forward to forking out over a grand for a car I just bought.

Apparently there was no trans leak it was just residual oil from somewhere else.

Getting it at around 12pm WOOOOT
