Overview of ETACS
ETACS, which stands for the Electronic Total Automotive Control System is the body computer used by the VR4. More modern vehicles use the CAN BUS signalling protocol for communication between various computer modules, but due to the era in which the VR4 was designed, the ETACs unit is mostly self-contained and does not communicate with other modules.
Location
The ETACS ECU clips into the back of the interior junction box/fuse box.
ETACS details
Does ETACS provide engine immobilization?
No, the ETACS module used in the VR4 only provides door lock security and records which key remotes can be used to unlock or lock the doors.
If you require engine immobilization you will need to purchase an aftermarket alarm system.
Keyfobs
Frequency: 315.884mhz carrier
Amplitude Shift Keying long = 1, short = 0
63 bits sent, repeated 6 times in one burst.
Key Antenna module remembers the code.
NOTE!: OEM keyfobs are not rolling code, and are also susceptible to replay attacks
What functions ETACS provides
The following functionality is provided by the ETACS module:

| Remote door lock control | When signal is recived from keyfob antenna unit, doors are unlocked/locked |
| Power Window control | Control window open/close based on the window up/down buttons.
Control window open/close based on a long press of the remote lock/unlock buttons on a programmed remote |
| Headlight alarm | Audible alarm if the headlights are on, the door is open and the key is in the off position |
| Key reminder | Door open and key still in ignition barrel. (Off position) |
| Door open alarm | Audible alarm if the key is in the ACC position and the door is open |
| Interior light | Delay and dimming of interior light. |

heated mirrors controlled by A/C ECU and is part of rear windscreen deicer.
Sunroof control has own control unit.
Keyfob antenna unit is seperate to ETACS unit, however there is serial comms between the two. Keys are programmed and stored within this control unit.
