Ill get some

one thing I could think of with the Commodore Ignition coil is the dwell time.. I've heard stories where coils burn/melting on the engine due to over voltage.. can't remember where I saw it.. I think it was with the Nissan boys

question to those who know more about auto electrical and the likes..

currently Im using 18 gauge wires for the COP, would it help (in a way) if I use 16 gauge wires for the negative and positive?

also I thought of running the negative straight from the battery.. if my battery was still in the engine bay..

Chuck an ammeter on it and log current values. Your really looking for peak currents and then compare that to max value rating for the gauge wire yr using. Long wire runs, it's better to run larger cross sectional wire to compensate for the voltage drop. Every manufactured cable will provide a resistance value per metre so it's easy to calculate out... Hope that helps mate .

thanks, that does help.. I was half-assed thinking about it as I was having a break from my study...

You'd need to log it though as the voltage from the signal is only applied for 0.004secs and I think current is only applied for that time from the other wires....

Anybody know the spacings between our cylinder's/spark plugs? Setting up COP using Bosch R8 coils and looking to make tabs to hold them down.

When I drew up a dxf to get a mount laser cut, I went with 98.4mm

I can also upload/send through my dxf if you want to get your own laser cut?

You're a good egg Bill!
I ended up not using any plates or hold downs.
The rear coils drop in flush with a solid grab so absolutely perfect.
The fronts sit up about 45mm and the more I thought about it the less appealing a plate was.
I had concerns about heat running up a 32mm tube and getting trapped under the coil.
Cut a long story short the Bosch R8 coils grip like crazy on the plug, been running them since Sunday without a glitch, front connections and cable sit below the coil heads and quite chunky.
I doubt they'll move, they barely turn.
Car runs great, smooth idle and less throttle needed than before.

I made up an adaptive loom that plugs into the original 3 coil connectors, then split off to the 6 coils. In addition to the 3 wires we use, the Bosch has a 4th pin which is a chassis ground.
Connectors and tycab wiring 16g where about $90, 6 genuine coils $300 total.
If anyone needs a wiring diagram or lengths I can help out.

I've got one of my honda k series coilpacks (673-2301) on the bench, this is what I measured as the ideal dwells with my oscilloscope:

9.0v = 6.52ms
9.5v = 6.11ms
10.0v = 5.28ms
10.5v = 4.85ms
11.0v = 4.58ms
11.5v = 4.33ms
12.0v = 4.06ms
12.5v = 3.89ms
13.0v = 3.55ms
13.5v = 3.44ms
14.0v = 3.37ms
14.5v = 3.18ms
15.0v = 3.04ms

I couldn't find any! Hence decided to measure myself.
