Difference between Type V and Type S

I'm looking at getting a Legnum and am still in the early stages.

Am currently waiting for a nice manual to come onto the market.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between type s and v?

I've been searching the forums with no success.

Cheers

Pablo

Type V has power windows, air conditioning, power steering and 4WD. But no AYC and the dash cluster is the basic one without the special illumination. Basically, Type V is your entry level VR-4.
Type V comes with standard wheels as well and no guard flare extensions.

Type S has the guard flare extensions, CD player, special illuminated dash cluster, upgraded interior, AYC, and the later model wheels.

But if you find a Type V for cheap, go ahead and get it.
The only main differences would be AYC and the dash cluster. But you can swap the dash cluster for a Type S one by just soldering two bits together. Fairly simple.
And you can get those guard flares from www.trademe.co.nz and occasionally they will appear on ebay uk and yahoo japan auctions :)

perhaps search a little harder, there have been various threads on the subject :)V = valueno ayc, just an lsd, boring gauges on 98-2000 models, no wheel arches, 16x6" wheels standardS = sport?ayc, cool dashboard, wheel arches, 16x6.5" wheels with a MUCH better offset

Tis indeed......... To see one with the flared guards (type-s), look at the website banner ;)

Just coz its a Type V doesn't mean it won't have a Hi-Vis dash though..... Its just an "extra"

Sorry to bring back an old thread, I’ve recently purchased a 97 vr4 in finesse green, tho I’m confused if it’s a type s or not, it doesn’t have the fender flares nor any sign of ever having them, but it has ayc on the cluster. Any thoughts?

Easiest way to identify is look on the placard on the firewall.

There will be a sub type like:
LNGF, LYGF, etc for legnum
SNGF, SYGF, etc for galant.

Subtypes are explained here:

Thanks for that, the vin plate does read sygf, which if going off that wiki page, is a type S. Did the pre-facelifts not come with fender flares?

No, no flares at all for the PFLs.

Any that you do see by now have been retrofitted with them :)
