A friend of mine ran a 70-200 f2.8 with a full frame sensor, it was just long enough, maybe a touch short. I had a 250 with an aps sensor so 400 which was plenty long but like f5.6 or some crap so not fast enough really....

I heard that the Melbourne F1 Grand Prix banned lenses above 200mm prior to a few years ago, but not about WTAC charging for length :| That's messed
I used a 55-200 kit lens last year on my crop body and it was pretty spot on. 70-200 on crop is gonna be perfect, now that I can actually take a decent photo. I bought my dslr on the first night of the event last year ahahahaha

I'm gonna take my new Canon 70-200 f2.8 ISii USM out for a spin on the Friday. Can't wait

Bit off topic but yeah, they've been blocking large lenses at the Albert Park F1 for several years now. The only F1 race worldwide that I know of to do so!
Nah, WTAC won't charge, and Melbourne don't kick you out anymore (at least not strictly). Heaps of people with good 70-200s (including myself) and a number of 300mm+ teles at this year's GP. Monopods are technically still banned at Albert Park though ahahaha
With Melbourne it's best to hide larger lenses if you can. Some gate bag checkers will search for it, others will let them through. I've been prevented from entering with a 400mm and I know other people who were stopped this year. I know someone else who got through this year with a sticker on the lens markings.
