Had a recent problem with my car, had it towed to mechanics and they said this is the problem...

Can anyone shed any light or price indication on this?

Cheers

What happened to your car that required the towing? As Scott says, in ye olde mechanic speak it sounds like perhaps one of your lower arms has failed. A known problem with these cars and which was subject to a recall. Did it cause any other damage?

And I thought this was going to be about a bowling night at the Casino.

Crown King Pin? The only crowns I could think of would be diff crown wheels!

Traditionally, the king pins were the bolts around which the front hub carriers pivoted when turning. These days, ball joints are used, and as with our multi-link setup, there is two ball joints at the bottom, in place of usually one king pin. I can't think what they mean by crown, unless they're referring to a castle nut. But the only castle nuts in the suspension are on the tie rod ends and on the axles themselves. Maybe they're referring to the axle as the king pin? I would suggest either asking for clarification, or taking it to a mechanic that speaks modern day mechanic.

Sorry, i was just driving along doing about 55kph and the ass end of the legnum just sort of clunked and then became impossible to drive. It just rattled and churned everytime i tried to move...

So is it one of the rear wheels that has gone funny? Or is it the diff itself? Brad could be right about the crown gear.
