Engine break in oil

Like not even a minute! And I will do that tomorrow morning when I head to Mty shop!

That sucks man, nothing worse than a dodgy motor after a rebuild… though that’s how I ended up with a Jeep once. 🤣😬🤦‍♂️

Sending good vibes your way, let us know what you find out.

Thanks everyone, and yes I will, I'm really debating on 4g swapping probably what I should have done from the get go!

There’s part of me that wants the purity of the 6A, but my logical side grossly overrules wirh the merits of a 4G swap in North America. We just don’t have the spares or access, and that shipping is a kick in the junk. You can’t swing a dead chicken without hitting someone selling an Evo 8/9 drivetrain here.

Truth be told I’m already amassing parts in the shed for an eventual 4g conversion when the 6A dies.

I agree with you! But for me it's so hard to find parts over here in calgary! I'm pretty sure I'm the only one in calgary with a galant/legnum vr4.
And for the same price it basically was to rebuild this motor I could by a 4g63 with everything here and easier to get parts!

Exactly my point.

You should the 4g swap and then tell me how it went 😉

How long did it run for. Your unlikely to run a beaing in "a few moments"
Cut the filter open and have a look.
I will cut filter open tomorrow, I did take the oil pan off and the upper pan off tk inspect the rods and some have more play than others which I assume is not normal.

What was at the bottom of the pan?

Glittery even though it ran for probably like seconds tops. I call the shop that assembled the block and heads and said somtimes it's normal for it to knock on start up untill all oil is everywhere but didn't really sound Normal to me.

Glitter in the oil and knock is game over I reckon... Don't let the shop that built the motor palm you off. Document the glittery oil and yourself opening the filter.

They told me to fill it with oil again an run it for a 1 minute and i said not a chance. Than they ask me to bring in the car to them so they can see why it's doing what it's so I'm brining it to there shop next week.

Thats wise. If they are going to fuck it completely let them do it then its 100% on them to fix

So i took the car to the shop! And within a few hours i got a call back and was told that the knock slapping sound was a dry lifter! So weird because i soaked the lifters in a cup of oil for a good hour before installing but who knows might have not been long enough.

I have worried about the same after new lifters, took the valve cover off concerned only to put it back on, drive for about 50kms and it go quiet.

That said though lifter noise is definitely nothing like knocking or "slapping". Did you get a video/go for a decent drive after they sent you on your way?

They took a took a video of it, and I have not picked it up yet I'll pick up today but take for a test drive before taking home!! But I pray it was somthing silly like that!

Did you bleed them with paperclip in the end while submerged in oil?

They don't take in oil unless you bleed them.

Thanks for that I did not know, I just thought I had to let them soak in oil for a hour or so! So hopfully I pray that's it because it was pretty loud! So maybe there was a bunch that were un filled tapping!
