It seems people are using wildly varying oil viscosities now days. Its a bit unfair to blame the owner for using the "wrong" oil when there's no real definitive guide on what rating to use. These are 15 year old cars, each with varied maintenance histories and kilometers chewed. Maybe someone with a bit more knowledge can expand on how to tell what oil your car needs. 0w-15 isn't going to be ideal for a pfl with 150k on the clock. Would running a thicker viscosity or thinner help reduce tick? Is it the cold viscosity rating or warm rating that makes the difference. Personally I'm using 15w-40.which realistically would be ideal considering the mileage and age of my car, but my lifters disagree. I know of others running thicker. What oil should I use seems to be the most asked question from new owners, yet there's no simple break down. Its always going to be a game of trial and error to find what works for your own car, but its not a cheap or quick gamble, assuming you drop every 5k.
