Ok, so i've been hearing a weird "knock" in the front suspension, in most cases, at slow speeds. Much like whats been described below.

What was yours doing before you had the ends fitted Josh? My steering has a little play and also have a little "clunk" if i turn into a driveway or something.

Yep exactly same as mine, clunk at carpark speeds when turning over bumps etc. it was the inner tie rod on the drivers side. jack up the car and it was obviously loose. i got the above pictured kit from US about $130 delivered, fits good, and fixed the problem. (you must get an alignment to fix the toe afterwards. )

After a wheel alignment and a visual inspection the tyre joint couldn't diagnose the problem. So today I took it for a Peddars "28 Point Suspension Safety Check". The fella's were very helpful and very curious about this ".....Magna?!?!?!?...." :ROFLMAO:

Now I still dont understand all the suspensions components very well but can comprehend just a little bit better than a 3 year old solving an algebraic equation.

He has written down for the inspection:
Tie Rod ends = RH and LH worn
Lower Bushes = rear bushes worn
Steering gear = RH backend worn (strut bar to chassis)

Then I asked if he could list exactly what I needed:
Strut bar to chassis
RH rackend/tie rod
Both Tie rod ends.

He has quoted me $730 to get this sorted (but wasn't 100% about the parts he quoted me). Now my experience with mechanics is I'd rather do it myself in 99% of cases. This one is no different although I'll be getting assistance from a friend or I might get Smooth Garage to sort it out.

Now I'm really unsure of what parts I need to get. After checking out some of the other threads I came across this store http://search.stores.ebay.com/World...sionQQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsaselZ146149511QQsofpZ0

I'm not sure of what exactly I need to get, and compatibility between models etc. Can someone please point me in the right direction? I know that this shouldn't cost what I was quoted.

order this and replace all the bits, this is the tie rod ends and tie rods.

Im not sure what they mean by the stut bar to chassis, although i would suspect its the straight lower control arm, with the bushes in it. Im not 100% sure which one on the above web site it is but it think these

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-Lo...ryZ33583QQihZ004QQitemZ140254361560QQtcZphoto

you can fit all the bits yourself, the tie rods are tricky but use a medium sized plumbers wrench to undo it is possible. you must get an alignment afterwards, it will be way out.

for $600 i had both of my lower control arms on both sides, and all innner/outer tie rod ends etc replaced using the kits off ebay

by the way that includes postage from the US and paying a mechanic labour to fit it all.

Josh, was it just one kit or a combination? Was it from the particular store that I posted up? I'd like to go with someone reputable and not as expensive as Mitsi's.

Eddy, thanks HEEEEEEEAPS for doing that. Between your links and this site http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m22b0s0p0, and some more research, I think I'm slowly getting my head around "suspension".

After looking at the drawing the "suspension guru" skecthed I think he actually means the curved lower control arm. So to cover all my bases I think i'm going to buy this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4-Lo...ryZ33583QQihZ004QQitemZ140262735352QQtcZphoto

In thevlink that Eddy posted up for the steering gear
a4d1_1.jpg

Are the black coloured items the same as the following links (rack end/ tie rod)?
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m22b406s1402p7128
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m22b406s1402p5564

And what are everyone's opinions on buying these parts from this particular seller? Seems rather cheap?!?!?! The Camskill site had the curved control arms going at 99 pounds ($218!!!)

Thanks again!!!

Hey Emanuel, thanks for your assistance. I think you'll find the part numbers you posted for the outer tie rod ends is just a typo.

I've found a seller in the U.S for; 2 upper control arms, 2 lower curved control arms, 2 lateral lower control arms, inner and outer tie rod ends, and sway bar links. Should be able to deliver for about $555 all up. Just awaiting for the email to confirm.

Well I think i'm just about upto scratch with suspension components now!

Sounds good, can you post up the link to the set so we know which one/seller it is.

I might buy the same set later on as my poyurethane bushes are too hard for the bad roads in my area.

Ok, so i've sourced the 2 kits that I would like to buy. I've asked the seller to verify that these kits are for a 97 Legnum VR4 etc etc.

These are the part numbers the seller gave me.
OEM parts #s:
MB912506 = Our # K90264R Upper control arm
MB912505 = Our # K90264L Upper control arm
MB912509 = Our # K90265RL Lower control arm lateral
MB912510 = Our # K90265RL Lower control arm lateral
MR162581 = Our # K90266L Lower control arm curve
MR162582 = Our # K90266R Lower control arm curve
MB892981 = Our # MB 892981 Sway bar
MB192430 = Our # ES2347 Outer tie rods
MB949343 = Our # EV350 Inner tie rods

The links for both kits:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm37.l1313%26satitle%3D360092439648%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1&item=360092439648

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0092402583&category0=&fvi=1&item=360092402583

I went to Agostino Mitsubishi in the city today to verify the parts and the sales rep wasn't entirely sure and said that all of them are wrong?! He gave me these part numbers:

UPPER CONTROL ARMS
MR162803 & MR162804

LOWER CURVED CONTROL ARMS
MR296293 & MR296292

LOWER LATERAL CONTROL ARMS
MR296295 & MR296296

TIE RODS AND ENDS (even though he thinks that there is no tie rod ends - only steering rack?!?!?!)
MB912519 & MR594674

AND I THINK THESE ARE THE SWAY BARS
MR272641

Can someone please help me verify which is correct?! Maybe someone with access to CAPS. I really want to get this suspension issue sorted before I end up in a wall.

Thanks guys, really appreciate everyone's help so far.

The part numbers the Mitsi dealer gave you are all fine but that is only the part number for the front sway bar the rear one is MR272711

Peter, thanks for your reply.

The Mitsi dealer mentioned that the parts the ebay seller gave me are mitsi parts, but what are they for?

The best I can say is that as far as we know all the parts are the same and a few people now have used Eclipse parts without any issues.

The part numbers might be different because these parts are for USDM cars, or because mitsi don't want people to cross reference parts. There could be a few other reasons probably as well!

Yea I find it interesting that Mitsubishi list different part numbers for the exact same part... And I'm not talking about slight variations, I mean I've seen the exact same part with different part numbers on them. I assume this relates to different production runs. Then of course you have the extremely slight variations with different part numbers. Its all very confusing and superfluous...

Confusing is an understatement.

I'll send the seller the part numbers I've been given from Mitsi-Aus. They probably wont mean anything to him.

As long as he is adamant that those parts will fit a Legnum then I should be fine if I need to refund/exchange the parts. Once I get the parts and IF they fit, then i'll get the part numbers from Aus added to the parts list along with the suggested numbers from the US.

Fingers crossed they fit.

Thanks for the replies guys. Much appreciated.

BTW - I remember saying when I first got this car that "stance is going to be the first thing I work on"..... Damn straight I am!
