Hey guys,

My name is Kris, I joined up to this forum a few months back in search of a Legnum. I contacted Iron Chef (Kristian) about importing one, but I'm a little impatient and didn't want to wait for it to be shipped over, lol. Then I was interested in Troy's (Turboalfa's) Legnum he had for sale but ended up finding a prime 1998 model for a ridiculous price that I just couldn't refuse!

It's pretty much standard aside from an exhaust, which is exactly what I wanted as I already own two modded cars and wanted the Legnum for a daily driver. I've been scouring the forums over the past month checking out mods and websites already though :ROFLMAO:
I'll definately have to suss out some suspension, rims and FMIC as soon as possible though. I'm hating the "monster truck" look :D

Anyways, a bit about me I suppose:

When I'm not working/bludging as an IT Network Specialist/Technician, I play guitar in a band. This was the main reason I bought the Legnum as I couldn't fit all my gear in my other cars and had to do multiple trips too and from gigs. I noticed that there were a few muscial minded members on the forum as well (sorry, can't remember who it was though:confused:). For those that are interested here's a brief rundown of my gear

- ESP Eclipse Custom
- ESP LTD Eclipse 1000
- ESP LTD MH-200
- Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier
- Marshall 1960a Cabinet
- HK Audio ELISE

I also own/ed two other cars: a Nissan Pulsar GTiR and a Datsun 260Z which I just recently sold (I know... I shouldn't have). The Z was powered by an RB20DET and GT3076 Garrett turbo (amoungst other things, lol), while the GTiR has had a fair few mods chucked at it over the years (Haltech E8, turbo, injectors, etc, etc). I was originally going to sell the GTiR instead but discovered low compression in cylinder 1 just as people started contacting me about it. So now I'm currently stripping down the GTiR and rebuilding it over the next 12 months. I figured now that I had the Legnum I'll have a lot more time to muck around on the GTiR and should start all over again from scratch. :ROFLMAO:

Anyways, that's enough about me. Glad to be on here and looking forward to discovering more about the Legnum.

Cheers,
Kris

Definately. I'm currently living in Mackay at the moment but am moving down to my new place in Brisbane in April. So I'll hopefully be there at the next meet :D

I know. I miss it heaps and would have loved to keep it, but truth be told I got a great price for it and it was either that or the GTiR... and I'm pretty attached to the R :p

Welcome to the forums Kris... you've covered the IT/Musical backgrounds quite well with most of us on here :D

The Legnum will be more than just a daily driver as you start tinkering with it. The Z is just damn sexy... and unless you parted with it for $20k, then fair enough!

Yeah the Z sold for around the $20k mark. $19,500 to be exact. It was a pretty reasonable price considering the amount of work and mods that went into it...

The Legnum will definately be staying as a daily driver. I'm only planning on doing a few minor mods, first of which will be a set of TEIN coilovers (I have super streets in the GTiR and love them), some new rims, boost controller, Apexi SAFC, and fuel pump just to be on the safe side. If a decent FMIC kit gets released I'll look into that as well.
I usually get hit hard by the modifying bug, but will be trying my best to practise self control with the Leggy :p

Actually, I'm going through the Audio forums at the moment looking for a "how to" on removing the centre console so I can install my Kenwood DVD/TV unit from the GTiR. Should be interesting...

Justin - Any chance on getting some pics of your Z? Any mods done to it?

Hiya Kris ... I'm a huge fan of the GTiR ... my last car was a modded S14 ... I was actually looking at a GTiR when I found the VR4's ... Glad I did, so much more room and luxury...

Definately are! The GTiR will be loosing a few more luxuries over the next 12 months too... Goodbye air con, cruise control, back seats, sound deadening and possibly power steering.

I just finished installing my Kenwood headunit this afternoon with the help of one of the "how to remove the centre trim threads". Here's a few pics of it all finished (The external control unit is hidden underneath the passenger seat).

Just about to order some TEIN Wagon suspension from RHDJapan too... Unless someone recommends otherwise? :/

Edit - Oh! I forgot to mention that I found the reason why I picked this Legnum up so cheap from the dealership ($12,500 for a immaculate 1998 Type V)... I found a whole heap of bicarb soda underneath the passenger seat. For those that don't know bicarb soda can be used to remove orders from fabrics, the dealership were obviously trying to cover up the fact that something inside the car was causing a rather awful smell.
Well I found the source of it underneath the carpet... An old rotten egg! I cleaned everything up and doused the area with odor remover so it should be all sweet now. ;)

I'd have flicked the gtir for the 260z to be honest! You'd have 4wd + big boot in the Legnum, and rwd and coupe looks in the 260z. The gtir is just another ricey boy racer car imho

But anyways, nice looking Legnum, first facelift I've seen with those bbs wheels on it. What size wheels are you thinking of?

Well, I got more for the Z than I would have for the GTiR. Besides, I wanted to have a track car to use in Brisbane, which the GTiR would be perfect for... The Z was just too chaos for anything besides drag racing and test & tunes. I certainly wish I could have kept it, but oh well.

As for the Legnum, I was thinking of getting something with a bit of dish to help fill the guards. I've had a look through the various threads and checked what sizes other people were running and have come to the conslusion that an 18x8.5 +35 rim would fill the guards without needing to roll/flare provided I stretched some 225's over them... Would this be correct or have I got something mixed up?

Cheers Brad, I'll look into the TEIN GT's tonight then. As I mentioned previously I have the TEIN SuperStreet's on my GTiR and love them, so if the GT's are anything like that I'll be happy.

From what I've read the GTs are quite hard if you're not planning on doing any track time with the car. Super wagons are more "street-friendly" I believe.

Oh wow, those fit perfect! I was thinking of going with a set of rims with a bit of dish/lip though, something like the Axis Hiro's or the Ray's Gram 57 Pro's... Something 5 spoke and deep anyways.

Will do, I'm definately keen to meet up with some members at one of the cruises in the future. I'm currently located in Mackay but have already organised to move into my new place in Fortitude Valley in April.

I've also just ordered myself a nice set of TEIN Super-Wagon Coilovers from RHDJapan (https://www.rhdjapan.com/jdm/TEIN-Super-Wagon-Damper-Legnum-VR-4-EC5W-21718).

Also looks like I've decided on the Lenso Widetrack rims too (http://www.7daytyres.com.au/products_closeup.asp?part=Lenso+Wide+Track&part_no=1569). Looking at the 18x8.5 +35... Should fill the gaurds nicely :D
