Auto Transmission Filter

Hey Everyone.

I am probably sounding like a total knob asking this, but what oil filter goes on the Auto Tranny ? I am happy to get a ryco or whatever...

I have seen all the threads about oil filters, but they appear to be for the Engine.

I need a part number for the Transmission Oil filter.

you've got a facelift so you probably don't have a trans oil filter.

as far as I know they are the same as the engine oil filter

never thought an auto trans got an oil filter..

thought they have that magnetic sump plug?

Yes the facelifts do have them, if you look in your engine bay on top of your gearbox you will see it ...

all pre facelifts had the external filter. the early facelifts did but then they went away from them. i dont know enought about the mitsi autos to say for sure but someone else might now - do the facelifts have an internal mesh type filter? like most other autos i have worked on

Mine is a 98 facelift and has a trans filter on it.

You can see the top of it on the last pic.

my non turbo 4wd prefacelift didnt, it was manufactured in 1996.

those gearboxes are quite different though, also only 4 gears.

i've got a 1999 type s legnum with the filter. Changed it today, it's a bit of a bastard to get in and out. I got mine from Mitsubishi for $28.30

yeah there is a aftermarket replacement - i put one on my bro lancer when i swapped the trans.

and carsten - thats strange, my 97 str had the filter! the info i posted above was given to me by a guy i know at mitsi,. prehaps there is no rhyme or reason to which ones had it?

My Legnum was manufactured 2/3/1999. Can you check via CAPS using the chassis number to see if it has an ATF filter? If not I shall have to check it out tomorrow. Sure hope it does not have an ATF filter - I could do without the hassle of changing one of those!

Just bought a Silverline brand ATF filter from Repco the other day. Price was $30. Am hoping to fit it at the next Wellington CVR4 workshop day...

I'll be doing a full fluid change sometime soon - moving to Amsoil everywhere.
Does any know which Amsoil filter would fit the tranny?

When I was in Thailand I saw alot of Tranny's but I don't think Amsoil made a Filter for them.
