Feels like missing teeth, front grinding and grabbing badly only on some take-offs in first gear.

You can do the work yourself if you are that way inclined. The bearing is about $50 and the rest is labour... assuming that the bearing is the only damage. Input shaft bearing is a fairly common fault unfortunately.

It IS a good idea to do the other bearings and the seals, but if they look good anyway it isn't necessary... especially if your funds are tight.

Not sure which bearing it was entirely - i'll get more info Monday.

Oh, also, spoke to the guy... Labour is going to be around the $1400 mark. (this includes removing the gearbox, replacing all the bearings, seals and clutch, putting it all back together etc)

If i had the tools and experience, i'd have definately attempted this myself... Oh well. You're also right about not really needing to replace all bearings - but given the history of the car i think its best all done...
