Howdy folks. I'm looking into buying a wreck of a fellow member and stripping it. Mainly for the motor and spare AYC diff in my case, but also as spares for others to get off me cheap (really cheap).

Any tricks or advice for putting the 6A13 on an engine stand? I'm just looking for stuff like "you'll need a particular type of stand" or "don't use these mounting holes". That kind of stuff.

Mr Findlay already told me that a cheap stand will work. Seems what I need now are bolts that will mount into the block, so I need someone who knows the bolt size.

Mr. Findlay says:

Engine stands don't come with bolts as every engine has different bellhousing bolt sizes and thread pitches.
Our engines are M10x1.25 and you need ones that are 65mm long except for one which has to be about 90mm long with a nut as pictured.

Next question - I need a load leveler and some chains right? I've eyeballed the two engine lifting hooks on the motor, but does anyone have a video or pictures of their load levelling setup and chains?

I have never used a load leveler when removing/installing engines, mainly because I don't have one but it would definatly make things easier if its in your budget

The same local bloke with the car trailer who's letting me use it also has a crane and leveller.

I'll just buy an engine stand. That way I'm not blowing heaps of money on stuff I'm only going to use a couple of times.

I'm in the exact same situation, I have an engine on the ground in the garage and a stand from autobahn, which holes did you use and did you washers??

Depending on the stand 70mm won't cut it and you'll need 100mm all round. I only had one 100mm bolt but I had others from the car that were long enough and the right thread. Mind you I was stripping a wreck so I had heaps of bits.

Note how I didn't use the bolts low-down. That's because they are part of the sump, not the block!

By the way the trick to mounting it is to mount the stand plate to the engine and tighten up the bolts and then maneuver the plate and engine into the stand. This lets you get all the angles right so that when you have the engine mounted in the stand it's upright in a position where you can put the locking pin into the stand.

Also the locking pin is too big and requires that you are super accurate with the position before you can lock it. Use a bolt instead.
