Ok, so who wants forged pistons and high quality rods

Please select 1 of 2 options.Realise its ~$2400 for both but a very solid base to produce power!!

Just imagine the feeling you'd get after spending all the dosh upgrading turbos, manifolds, injectors, IC, exhaust, replacement ECU etc. then when tuning it on a dyno to see just how much you can get out of it you hear a loud 'BANG!' and the engine seizes up. Damn you'd be kicking yourself! Considering that upgrade path will be close to $10k anyway, you'd be mad not to spend the extra on what is clearly a weak point, and while you're there the pistons make a lot of sense...

All of the poll members will have received a PM from me;)

Damn. Wish my car was sold, I'd be in on this! I need to liquidate my modifying money!

The 13th is rapidly approaching!! We need to start thinking about having coin ready to go to get the production process underway.

Any new comers need to get in quickly so i can finalise numbers.

If for whatever the piston numbers don't meet minimum (6), would the guys that ordered both rods & pistons be interested in getting rods only?

Please advise me.

Remember if we don't get the minimum number this won't go ahead.

Over to you guys:p

The other option is you guys could split the difference - say you have five of the six you need, if you split the cost of the last set between the five of you then you could still get it done (and you could each get an extra piston!)

anyone out there willing to chip in for this? I'm willing to step in and contribute $200 as long as I do get it back when someone wants the extra set..

I may be interested in the rods, problem is that my mechanic would be installing them, and knowing him it would take 2 months to finish.... I will need to ask him to quote me first before I commit.

Any idea on the amount of hours needed to do this?

Ask your mechanic, he'll give you a better answer

HiPSI- definately....................NOT!

damn, I thought I was onto a revolutionary mod ..... hehe okay enough tomfoolery. You've done a great job with this Simon, well done.

but I wanted Piston.....:crying:

There's no gain in Rods.... is there?

The stock rods are much more likely to bend and explode than the pistons. You are right though, you won't gain any power.

Not directly, but the larger rods means you CAN go to bigger power without having to worry about smashing rods and totalling your engine in the process. If you're serious about bigger power, these will be on your short-list, especially considering how difficult it will be to organise this again in the future.

So I spoke to my mechanic and yeah he said it's not a Sunday afternoon job, he said 4 weeks, and knowing him this means 4 months... I'm gonna let this one pass and see how long my engine goes with the current setup and power with the stock internals, i.e. see if it dies in 6 months or 6 years.

4 weeks? please dont tell me you're paying off his mortgage too..

engine rebuild shouldn't take no more than 1 week, if all parts are accessible and of course if there are no other jobs.. but 4 weeks seems a little too long.. specially 4 months..

Ok peoples, it's time to step up. I've sent a PM to all the respondents bar the 2 that have pulled out .
Now based on the poll numbers and responses including the 2 that wimped out, we SHOULD have enough to cover both requirements......BUT, i'll report back on here once the money is in my account and ill let everyone know the actual numbers of each and where we'll go from here.....

Nice work Simon. Your one of the few people who actually act and do something that so many will always talk about on forums like this. I hope you get your numbers and that it all works out well.

Whats the likelyhood of getting these items AFTER this group buy is completed? I don't need these yet at all but I will need them later down the track and I have a bit of money at my disposal at the moment. Don't know whether to put my hand up or not...

I've pm'ed Simon about my status with this GB, and I do hope that it really goes ahead..

btw..

just thought i'd get things sorta cleared up..

how much approximately is it?

rods only

&

rods & pistons

just roughly anyway..

There will be no run unless we can pay for all 6 sets. Each set of rods will be $800 which includes ARP 2000 bolts.

Piston will be from CP and need a minimum of 6 sets. Tentative pricing which won't be firm until they receive the piston dimensions but ~$1590 includes rings, pins etc. That may go up or done a little depending.

First page, thought it was pretty straightforward.

Come on guys, still haven't heard from everyone yet:confused: This is going nowhere if you don't respond.

Hank as the first line says it all. If this fails and at the moment it's looking like it will, unless you can get another 5 of your mates that want rods or rods&pistons there will be nothing available until someone does. I was using my piston and rod as a template for basic sizing.

The whole point of doing this was because i'd been asked on a number of occasions from different people about availability of these particular items. So after organising the whole shebang, so all you have to do is turn up with your money, we can't even get 6 people together from this complete forum to do a buy

As i've said if this falls over, then someone else will have to do it. But you'll need a piston and a rod to use. Because until i give the go ahead, nothing will be measured & drawn up for production.

So far only 2 people have responded with a yes, Don and Naughtika.

People out- Smokehay, GTO, DrJosh001. So unless the others still to contact me come up with the $$ this will be dead in the water in a week...
