Right hello again fellas, here's my latest problem.
Basically, the car has been running well. No stalling and it's been starting all the time.
Today, i left the car off for 3 hours and after work i went to start it to go home and it couldn't hold a constant idle for long.
Also, the engine note sounded different.
It's coughing and spluttering when it turns on. The NRMA road side assistance fellow tried to get it started up. I thought it might have been contaminated fuel and he checked and said it's not the fuel, it's an electrical problem. He checked one of the spark plugs and said they're a bit worn but he doubts its the problem.
I had to get it towed home today and i'll be towing it to an auto electrician tomorrow morning (as recommended by the road side assistance bloke).

In this video, you can hear the car having a rough, weird sounding idle. Shortly after it comes on, it'll die out. Sometimes, not even being able to fire up at all. If you turn your speakers up you can hear the weird sounding idle.

Does anyone have any idea what this is?

Just an idea. Is your plug into your air flow sensor connected firmly? I am sure the road side guy would have looked at this but just thought i'd suggest it in case. Save you a trip to auto electrician.

Thats no good bro.... My uneducated guess would be your throttle positioning sensor or crank angle sensor

Hope you done an ECU reset first!

My advice would be to leave it to the experts though

An auto electrician should be able to determine what's going on in there shouldn't he?

Dunno.... But i'm sure he would have a better idea than i would :)

Hope it all goes well and doesn't cost you too much money!

I checked all the piping and connectors and nothing is loose. It's just really weird because i filled up petrol, drove off, the car was fine and then i got it back to work left it off for a few hours and when i came back to it, it started doing this.
I don't know.

I'm trying to find a towie now to see if they can take it in the morning to a performance workshop around 20kms away.
I hope it's something simple and nothing totally major.

Thanks boys. I'm onto it and i'm getting the car towed to Meek tomorrow morning. Hope it'll be back on the road soon!
I'll reply in this thread with what they find the problem to be.

disconnect the AFM and start the car, if it idles fine (albeit higher than usual) you have a pretty decent vacuum leak somewhere.

it would still run even with a dropped cylinder, would just idle rough, so my bets are on a vacuum leak.

My guess is that the back bank of plugs haven't ever been changed and they're fouled and therefore not sparking.

Reckon it could be the plugs? I hope it's something as simple as that.
The NRMA road side assistance dude checked one of the plugs at the front and said "hmmm they're a bit worn" then he said nope it's not the plugs at all.
Then again, he's not a specialist and even though he was there checking a lot of things and a lot of plugs, and harnesses but i don't think he knew very much about what it could be.
The car is now at Mitsubishi specialist Meek Automotive. So it's in good hands and i do hope they can find out what the problem is soon. Chris was onto it this morning, taking piping off and checking a lot of things. So i hope i'll hear from them soon.

This morning, i was driving my Magna, following the tow truck with the Legnum on the back and while it was on the freeway i saw a guy in a car pointing to the Legnum and talking about it to his mate in the car. I realised that our cars look pretty unique and eye catching on the road. And turn a lot of heads too. Made me miss driving the car straight away haha

I can't load the video on my computer at work, but its a possibility that you have been struck with the same issue several in perth hav had, with an ignition coil failure resulting in the burning out of the ignition drivers on the ecu. You probably have lost 2 or more cylinders which is why it will start but can't idle and run properly, and the change of exhaust note.

When they get the car check to see if you have spark at allfront three coils on the motor.
