This one caught me by surprise the other day. I parked the car outside and it got rained on quite heavily for a few hours. Driving home, the fuel level was very low, I was expecting the light to come on (but it hadn't yet), and the engine was coughing and surging. Sounded and felt like water in the fuel.
It actually died and I coasted past an intersection, left the car on the side of the road while walking to a servo for a jerrycan full of fuel. The added 5 litres was enough to start the engine again and drive back to said servo for a full tank.
Two questions: Does anyone know if there is a drain port/plug at the bottom of the tank to drain out water, or is it a big job going in from the top?
Also, where is the water likely getting in from? I assume around the filler neck, which might just need a new cap on it or a silicone sealing?
