Go 215/40R18 for your tyre. IMO 215/45R18 is too tall, that is the size that the new Lancer runs and is a bit tall. I'm your if you look on your tyre placard (much like mine) it will list a 205/55R16 and a 215/45R17.

205/55R16 OD ~632mm
215/45R17 OD ~625mm
215/40R18 OD ~629mm
215/45R18 OD ~650mm

215/40R18 will sit nicely on an 8" rim (much better on an 8.5" or 9" though :p)

However I also think that the term "fitment" shouldn't be thrown around when talking about a wheel only 8" wide, maybe on a Kei car but not a Legnum!

Also Darren feel free to PM me about the Work Wheels you are interested in, I'm sure I could smash that price!

A 215/40/18 will literally be a licorice strap, will look horrible.

But 45's are too much sidewall IMO, every time I see them I think, why not just go 19's? Could go the tried and true 225/40R18 size that will fit the rim fine with absolutely no hint of stretch what so ever.

wud rather not go as big as a 45, over here its not really about large tyre walls :)

this is a 215 35 on an 8j on my other car and tbh i think thats big!! lol

Your roads are obviously quite good to run such small sidewalls.

Small sidewalls look silly as they don't fill out the arch properly.

our roads are poor, we just drive with caution ;)

surely lowering more will help fill them arches! lol

The wheel diametre will also play a part in the height of the side wall. A 215/45/18 will have a relatively small side wall, where a 215/45/16 will be chunky as.

Having a small side wall gives you no room to play with stretch and looks silly.

Here is a 215/45/18 on a 18x8.5 wheel.

Looks perfect on a VR4. I run 245/45R17, and you lot are sookin about a 215/45 lol :p

well iv only got little pussy 8j so ill settle in the middle and go with 40 profile, now 215 or 225.

im thinking 215 to give some stretch to help with any arch related problems.

How does a 8" wide wheel mean settling in the middle. I was talking about 18" vs 16" side walls.

I keep telling you, a 215/40/18 will look horrible.

that 215 45 looks good on that 8.5, so that has a slightly higher wall than 215 40, but has a slight more stretch than on an 8, so a 215 40 on an 8 should look close to to that above picture?? or have i got that wrong! lol

215/40 has 5% less sidewall height than a 215/45.

215/45 has a sidewall of 96.75mm
215/40 has a sidewall of 86mm.

A half inch of stretch won't lose 10mm of sidewall height.

ah, i stand corrected

ill be ordering tyres today, so between 40 and 45's its all personal preference, neither are gonna cause rubbing issues?

(i will have pics soon to prove im not wasting ur time, lol)

Well in the end it's up to you. But personally I would go the larger profile to keep the rolling diametre close to stock. And I also don't like the look of licorice straps.
