Hi everyone .Is anyone know how to remove auto gearshift knob.i want to tight it up my one loose. Thanks

Hey Guys has anyone actually done this. my Auto Gear nob swivels about 5ml each way which isn't the worst thing in the world but would be nice if i could tighten it up.
I thought the chrome bit at the bottom might unscrew but now that i've tried it it doesn't seem to.
Ill play around a bit more but any help would be appreciated.

You need to remove the top button, use a flat and thin like screwdriver and insert it on the front which there is a clip there. Be careful when prying it out.

Once remove, you need a deep socket, I think it is a 10ml socket and undo it and you are done.

A litte off topic but is it possible to screw on a different shift knob? I'd love to get one with a bit of weight and not such an odd shape, and without the button if thats possible.

I'm pretty sure that you could use any manual gearknob if you didn't want the button to work. Just attach it with the button permanently depressed. Otherwise there are a few specialist automatic aftermarket knobs available, but good luck finding them

I'm actually looking at buying a MOMO automatico, looks great and i can get them from America through Ebay for like $100 + $10 shipping. Sounds good to me.

Might want to test trying to remove the key with the button before getting a manual knob to put in there i noticed the button wont go down if you are in park and don't have your foot on the brake. It also wont let you remove the key if you are not in park so it is linked the the ignition somehow.

As far as I know the key should still be able to be removed with the button down (ie manual gear knob) but you are right in that the brake needs to be pushed down to change from park. Doesn't worry me though as I have the momo automatico already in

OK so when Irwin said that there was a clip at the front of the gearstick which front is that, toward the bonnet or towards the driver? Can't seem to get the top button off.

Just got it, unclipped is from the front closest to the driver. Just took a bit of fiddling. Thanks anyways Kat :)
EDIT: There is actually one clip either side of the gearstick, on the sides facing the doors.

Yeah The clips are to each side but i just used a small screwdriver and popped it up from the front it came up fairly easy compared to the dash/clock. Also when he said a long 10 ml socket he meant long.
I ended up getting a set of tube 'spanners' as the standard sockets in my set were not long enough.

done my sneaky auto finished today! a maori job but came out good! will get pics soon

im trying to reassemble the automatic gear knob, and the plastic rod that goes down with the button isnt moving. im now stuck in neutral or drive and cant even remove the keys because i cant put it in park. ive tried pressing the brake aswell. im supposed to pick people up from the airport at 2:30-3:00pm too so im really desperate, any help would be much appreciated!

ok, i removed the shift lever and found out what the problem was. while trying to 'unscrew' the knob, the nut must of cut into the thread, pushing the metal in, so the plastic rod is now rubbing/scraping against the metal. there is no way to remove the plastic rod, so i need a whole new lever. i think its this part LEVER,A/T SHIFT LINK, but comes up with two different part numbers and amayama is calling them BRACKET STEEL or ARM, CONNECTING? (http://mitsubishi.epc-data.com/legn...-floor-shift-linkage/26890,26891,26873,26878/)

Have a look at some of the people parting out on here in the For Sale threads, surely someone will be able to provide you a complete assembly at a reasonable price.
