Howdy,

Looking to do a stealth sub install in my legnum. I use the boot of the car regularly, so the sub must be under the floor....I don't want to have to take anything in or out. I also want it to be totally stealth, nothing to see.

It looks like this now, and I want it to look just the same after:
IMG_0771.jpg

Now these cars have plenty of room under the false floor.... Around 100mm between the false floor and the chassis floor and a good foot or so of depth or to work with into the middle of the space save (which has to stay).

So what I need is suggestions of how to make use of this space. My best idea so far is a 12" facing upwards in a sealed fibreglass enclosure moulded into and around the space saver and maybe using some of the surrounding floor area if I need more volume. Will need to make a new false floor from scratch of course. The thing is, how do I do this, yet not have the sub visible? I just want to see my carpeted boot floor!

Ideas?

why not use the space on the side of the boot and mount the sub on the trapezoidal space?

I've been thinking of doing the exact same thing. There's plenty of room in there and considering I'll be using all the boot space every week I think a stealth install would be the best option. Only problem is how to do it.

A fibreglass enclosure would be your most option, but you'd have to be clever with the design to prevent it from breaking and/or vibrating. If you figure something out let me know :D lol

i was thinking for mine to put the sub on the left hand side were that little compartment is and build the enclosure out to just before that luggage tie down point near the wagon door. it would cut the boot space down a little but it would be easier to get the spare wheel out if you ever need to use it.

here is a pic (its a toyota but you know what i'm getting at.)

I need that space when I have the bike in the car....and it wouldn't be stealth.

I'm going to be a stubborn bastard and not give up until I find a design that meets all of my above criteria AND doesn't compromise sound quality/response.

It's a good idea. I just really want full stealth.

doesn't have to be fibreglass, you could use mdf. The floor is easy but it's best done with a completely new false floor again out of mdf and then carpeted. You could either have the sub box by itself in the wheel well, or you could incoporate it into the new false floor. Either way you need the extra thickness of the mdf so that you can put a rebate around the hole and fix a metal grill in there so that it protects the sub. Then either just carpet over the top or even better if you can find some speaker cloth the same colour as your carpet, use that over the grill.

I will be doing this when I take delivery of my car but that might still be a while away considering its not on a ship yet.

you could do the VW idea but have a peice of MDF that covers the sub so it dont get damaged..

you have the right idea- I would do a stick on 'cover' over your new floor and use the same colour carpet as the car. i dayleys in archerfield are the go for this. that said - use strong mesh over the sub and do not forget to leave the bracing in for load bearing. if the amplifiers are small enough sink them into the floor as well. (I have a ZZE122R corolla done this way with a 10" and 3 amps.) I would put the whole lot on two gas struts and round the rear of the box so it can hinge up.

take your time , measure twice , cut once and use decent cabling then show the result :)

Stealth

It might be cheaper to get a set of roof racks with a bike holder on them.

What type of bike do you have can the front wheel be taken off? Leggies arnt that tall so putting a bike on the roof is a good idea I reckon. With the sub on the side like the Toyota you can purchase those thin subs now which are thinner.

Cheers

Sorry for no reply for ages lads. Things have been pretty crazy here...haven't had two moments to think about this one. :(

Gooch: Great idea on the roof mounted bike rack. Still want full stealth though! Can you tell I'm a stubborn bastard! :D

Ok stubborn bastard :ROFLMAO:

How about sub in the roof then hanging down?

then you can still slide your bike in under and have full strength???

I got no idea! - good luck with it

Why not just go and see a specialist or two at some car audio shops. They'd have some good input no doubt?

Good idea. Will have to chase that up when I have the time for this project again.

Its certainly worth a try. Just don't assume because they do it for a living (or even if they've won trophies for their work) that they'll have any better suggestions than you've already had yourself. I've known several of perth's so-called 'best' trophy-winning installers over the years and even on $10,000 installs they are all capable of very very shit work and bad ideas.

Just go in there with an open mind to learn what you can, but don't assume they know everything and keep your damn wallet closed!

I was poking about the back of the Legnum yesterday afternoon.. Seems like there is a lot of room to hide stuff.
I've pulled out my old 10disc stacker and intend to fit my amp in there.. Still a little unsure what to do with the sub I have lying about. Maybe something removeable..
