Take it to MV Automatics and have done what we had done there. Read the first post of the group buy thread (in the SA seciton of the forum) for what they did, and ask for the same. Problem solved for good.

Basic breakdown is:
  • Remove trans from car,
  • Remove the planatery gearset carrier and tig weld the pins in place (first common fault)
  • Install new one piece wave spring
  • Install new rear main engine seal (you must supply, $55 from Mitsubishi)
  • Install new torque converter seal
  • reinstall into car, refil trans and transfer case fluids
Total quote is around the $1200 mark.

For an additional $200 he can remove the valve body and "install" a shift kit he developed for the W5A51 in the ralliart magna. This involves modifying the flow characteristics to give a quicker and firmer shift.

Definitely worthwhile taking it to MV for the full job. It's a peace of mind thing as much as it is a preventative measure.

Make sure they check the torque converter itself..as mine went to MV Automatics ages ago for a suspected torque converter seal and ended up also having a cracked torque converter repaired as they crack around the welds near the snout aswell..

Follow Lee's advice or always live in fear that your transmission might explode at any second without warning.

Oh, and Lee, you forgot the final step..

  • Drive it like you stole it

Lol with the business slogan 'specialising in magnas' :p

Sinergy charge a fair bit but they always did a good job and do know legnums well. Its just Jons prices are better and he does just as good; if not better work ;)

Synergy have to charge more to cover their overheads and to cover all the nice things having a public workshop comes with. I haven't heard very many unhappy people with Synergy.
