Felix, I suggest taking your car to a reputable mitsubishi specialist.. not mitsubishi service centre.. they suck..

correct me if im wrong.. MEEK is in NSW right?! so they might be a good shop to take it too..

doing the full flush yourself is fairly easy. Sign up to club vr4 and use the guide they have, its got pictures and everything. need 2 people to get it done though

Well add me to the list of people that have broken this bracket! Luckily, I remembered reading this thread way back last year, so knew exactly what I'd done!

Unfortunately I ended up stuck in 1st gear, so pulled over, shoved my hand down there (only just got it in, and very hot!) and manually shifted it to 2nd. Got me home. On my bike to the hardware store bright and early tomorrow then hey! :)

All fixed now, bolted as shown by Gly.

Only drama I really had was getting the tabs out that retain the cables. The best way I found was to unbolt the main bracket, then you can lever the tabs out with a large flat bladed screw driver like so:

Both brackets drilled and bolted ready to be reinstalled:

Reinstalled in the car:

Working just fine now, though with the brackets bolted up maybe a little tight you get a little more feedback through the shifter. No drama really.

to remove,

lift the tab out thats circled in yellow,

to fix,

drill and nut/bolt it together,

yellow = Bolt,
Blue = Lock Nut (nylock)

drill theu the brackets with a 7mm drill, both sides,

use a 6mm bolt and locknut combo, do them up so its back together, but leave them loose enough so there is some (tiny) play in the joint.

has to be a lock nut so it wont come undone.

ok so i picked my car up on fri and ive lost all gears except 4th and i have to slam it to even get it in. so according to this advice, all i need is to drill and rebolt...... is this a reliable fix. i need the car fixed asap for work. how much would it cost for the mechanics to fix it properly? everything has gone wrong with this car so far. it sucks but persisting to push through and enjoy it....

Drilling and putting bolts in is actually better than new, as long term the rubber will always break apart again.

The only catch with drilling and bolting is that you will get a little more feedback through the stick when shifting. Feels a little more ratchety, if that makes sense. Doesn't bother me at all and there's no difference in performance either way.

Yes, a mechanic could do it properly and replace it with the proper part, but it'd cost you as there is a few hrs labor involved.

If you don't mind getting your hands dirty and have a morning to spare, then DIY following gly's instructions and my few tips on page 3.

spoke to a mechanic that i half know. the car was actual able to slot into gears again thisafternoon when it was not running. and the clutch pedal wouldnt pop fully out everytime so the mechanic said it could possibly be an air bubble in the clutch line or a clutch cylinder leak of some sort. so he recommended not to drive it to the workshop coz forcing it into gears could bugger the gearbox. so rather tow it there to be safe. so im hoping its fixed asap....only had it a day and want it for the cruise on sunday!!!! woooo! im devastated atm tho
