What's wrong with this picture?

Not long after I got the car (after the SA cruise in fact) I'd been having some sounds of what I thought was my drivers front spring which must have unseated. When I pulled it out though, it was fine.

So I finally got my other front shock out today to replace it. Notice anything?

The car hated its stock ride height apparently. Good for it.

It definitely snapped. Looks like it happened well before me taking possession of it. Very scary.
