I picked up my el-cheapo sub from strathfield car radilol and I was suprised at how little they had.

So where are the massive car audio warehouses that I can get max discount 6.5" splits? I'll go ebay otherwise.

I've found that JB HiFi will do good deals on car audio equipment and already usually have good prices to start with.

Strathfield are now more interested in selling you a mobile phone and cheap ass TV.... I refuse to go there now!

Our local autobarn has a Rockford, Alpine and Clarion contract so thats where i go. Dunno whether Sydney stores may have the same thing goin on?

JB have some OK entry level gear but if you want high end you will need to go to a stockist who can order it all in....

Luckilly I don't want high end gear. Although I will go check out a local autobarn. I can see all of JB's stock online.

JB have more than what is listed on their website. Their website is shit, but autobarn also do have lots of stuff too.

I think ebay is the best and get stuff from the US for some really good brands and prices.

This is the best place I know of in Sydney. Even just go and check out there store. Best to wait for one of there big sales or just talk them down to a really good deal.

if you dont want high end stick with jb hi fi. out of all the brands they sell i would look at kicker and jl audio but take into consideration that the good jl and kicker components are about the same price as high end stuff

Ok on the topic of being tight...

What's the best budget gear? My bro has sony xplode stuff in his car and it doesn't sound to bad to me.

Everyone screams don't get sony however. Is pioneer a better alternative for cheaper stuff?

I'm watching some alpine stuff on ebay i'll see how it goes.

I don't mind ordering from the US.

If I can get out of front and rear 6/6.5" splits for under $200 I would be over the moon and will pay up to $250 if it's really going to be worth it.

If anyone want to throw up some links to stuff which isn't shit in that price range on ebay I'd be like wow THANKS WEEEEEeeeeeeeeeee!

i would go jvc over pioneer, sony, kenwood etc. i dont rate alpine speakers at all they should stick to decks and amps. mtx, cadence and all the rest but you must consider what you want out of the speakers, mid bass, etc and the quality of sound speakers make is subjective not objective

you see, i agree to most of people here. strathfield is sort of fading away from the car audio. JB's got a good list of stuffs. Aubiobarn has a few. I think it all depends how much you wanna spend and how far will you go. For basic set-ups, strathfield cando a god job. Such as pioneers subs, base model kenwood sub and amps, base model MTX's and some sonys. However, they are everyday ordinary stuff. JB has higher end stuff like jl splits, r- serise alpines and t JL subs including w7's on stock. still have some cheap studd like audioline so it will not breat the back. and it seems that it is fading the car sudio these days and one of ther reason being most of new cars comes with built- or indash stereo with steering wheel control and all that. JL, Alpine have produced some sort of a system ( i just forgot what they were... AAAARK) that can connect speaker wires and have RCA outputs, which allows cars with indash stereos to pumped up. For an example, stereo work done to honda euro accrod was picking up so much engine signals, rca lines had to be taped up 3 times and rca converter was wraped in foil. Still had problems. the RCA Converter was replaced with JL converter thing.. ( I can not still remember) and it was fantastic. But the cost was very high.... aroung 900 margin for the box.

Well, i do not think there are bright future for the shops that specialises car stereos anymore. I can not afford jl 1/1000 amps and 13w7 subs with Boston Acoustic splits so probanly will not drop in to the distributors. However, i would shop around JB and Strathfield to find what i need... just decent stuff. Probably not autoban.. Fusion is alright but my personal opinion is not as good as it used to be.. still made in china.. I would get the audioline amd because at least, it is made in korea..

my prefered sup up

2jl 12w3 with 1/500 amp (JL.. It is the best~)
3 pairs if alpine splits with alpine f serise amp (F250??)
JVC DVD unit
Sony graphic equaliser with presets and digital graphics
2 farad capacitor

Maybe I am old, maybe I am just a normal person, either way, the stock speakers are more than good enough for me. You guys realise your not driving a Gemini up grade?? DOOF DOOF and OONCH OONCH IMHO is for the twits whose cars sound like shit and dont have the balls to doof doof a Hyundai from a set of lights

The best thing about Rocofords is probably there amps.
I love there speakers and have had them in a couple of cars. (Powers)
There power series speakers are the best, I don't know about the cheaper punch series though.
I've also had the pioneer kevlar ones which were also great.

When it comes to speakers its more a personal preferance as they all have a slightly different sound, thats why its good to go listen to them in a shop first.

that right. also it depends on what you are aiming at i guess. in my opinoin it is essential to have at least a small sub for a good sound quality. door speakers just can not porduce a deep bass. There are no real need to get 4 woofers if we are aiming for a good sound quality.. even splits..

Yep.... ;)

Stock speakers in these cars are actually pretty decent so i am not surprised there are a few people who aren't changing them.... I just love my music loud with pristine clarity, and unfortunately that means i have to have at least 1 sub :)

that system would be useless.
Number 1. you are under powering the subs
Number 2. 3 pairs of splits is pointless and why would you go alpine splits out of all the brands.
Number 3. you dont need a graphic equalizer with pretty digital graphics if you are running amps because a good stereo tuner will have all the levels on the deck at 0.
Number 4. caps are a waste of time and money and are just wank. for the cost of a cap you could buy a proper battery like an optima yellow top and do the job properly.
