Has anybody in Melbourne installed and tuned an Interceptor on their VR-4?

I've sorta been waiting to get one, because I want to take my car to a tuner who's done it (with good results) at least once before.

There's a workshop in Geelong (Dalton or Dyson. I get them confused - they both specialise in weirdo motors) that has a lot of experience with Haltechs and does a good job installing and tuning. A mate took his car there and was happy with their service.

I dunno if they've done a VR4, but his car was a TX3 Laser with Familia GTR running gear - I doubt they would have seen something like that before and they had no issues working on it. Ended up punching out close enough to 200fwkw. That was using a standalone system though.

I think after comparing the costs of the vipecs versus the interceptors and taking into account what I'm after I will end up with the Haltech. The car will always be a daily drive and I won't be considering larger injectors in the future. Seems that the Haltech along with a FMIC and exhaust will gain the extra poke and effectiveness I am after.

I spoke to a local tuner I know and he said for the price Vipec is not the way to go. For that kind of money Motec, Autronic or the new Platinum series Haltech is the way to go.
One thing he said about Vipec's is that all the functions are not yet usable. The board is designed for these functions but the software has not been released yet by Vipec. Look in the Vipec pamphlet it's stated in there in small writting.

I got quoted $4300 to get a Vipec wired in and tuned by JB Peformance in Victoria. lol lol lol lol

Hi peoples,

I am buying a Haltech Interceptor Platinum from a person that never got to install it on their car.

I thought the wiring was the same for the old Interceptor and the Platinum model, but it is not.

For those who are after wiring diagrams Im uploading both.
Have fun with your new piggyback if you do buy one!

Also I am trying to upload the map for the haltech, its a zip file but it failed to upload. I got it from this site anyway so if you search you will find. I think its for the old interceptor. If anyone has the zip file for the platinum unit could you please send it to me.
Cheers.

Bilal, I am very interested in your experience installing and getting it tuned (in Melbourne somewhere?). Once I get an exhaust done, this is the next logical step on my car.

I was thinking Tech sport??? As they are very experienced and everyone comments on them. Dont know if they overcharge or something should call them up and get a quote.

Jason Round from HPI magazine even said Tech Sport is reputable and can install an tune.

Im going to ask my mechanic after he compliances the car if he knows any places to tune. I think there is Protek in Preston that can tune.

Will let you know.

Ok, spoke to Tech sport and the answer is.... NO, they dont have a dyno to tune and the place they have for tuning does not deal with Haltechs, keep searching Bilal.
lol

side note, does the interceptor remove the MAF??

does anyone here hav any experience with adaptronics or stinger ems's???

Have a e420c sitting in front of me atm.
Will be running it with a LC1 for closed loop and self tune

Will let you know how the install goes, when i get round to it.
Some guys on Ausrotary are starting to use them and writing good things.

Rob at Adaptronic is good to talk to and replies to emails promptly.

Hi ppl,
was wondering if someone on here could provide me with a little direction.
I have an interceptor to install and was wondering who I should see about it.
I'm from Newcastle and would probably take it down to Sidknee to be done.
I'm waiting for my new intercooler kit and I also have a trans cooler to go in at the same time.
My thoughts were to get it all done at the same time and then get a tune.
Any suggestions of companies that ppl have tried?
I would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks

Definately wait for the intercooler to be installed before having a tune. However, installation of the Haltec should be very straight forward if you can solder a wire or two - Are you willing to do it yourself OR do you NEED someone to do it for you?

Mate I can do it myself, it's more a time issue...
I just don't get enough of it!
And then I guess it's the base maps etc and will the car
run like a dog until it's properly tuned. It's my baby, ya gotta understand! Haha

An interceptor only alters signals from the inputs to the ECU. Therefore, if everything is set to "zero" in the map, it will be just like it wasn't there. Then as you tune it, the signals to the ECU are altered and its all good.

As for a map, past experience seems that every car is different and custom tune is required.

As for who in Sidnee, ask Dimi who he would recommend as he did say who he WOULDNT recommend (cant remember who, just ask)

Thanks for the direction! I know if I have a little box of bang in the car, it's definately not going to be set at zero, that's my problem!

Why won't it be all 0's?
If you are buying second hand, then you would want to get the tuning cable and software too. If you're not getting them, contact Haltec about obtaining them. If your buying new it should come with them too!

Wire it up, plug in and reset all to 0's
Done! Drive as you were till you can get it tuned ;)

Yeh I see what ya mean. I've got all the software etc And I would prefer to do it myself, just never thought about running it at zero state..
Thanks for the advice

Not having much luck with my platinum Haltech interceptor ! Cant seem to get the crank sensor signal to talk to the Interceptor . I've wired up quite a few Haltechs, but this one has me stumped. Just cant get a rpm signal, and I'm using a base map that has been used on another Legnum VR4.
Bit frustrating...
