haha thanks - price is right?

Am i right in assuming that you would be paying around 16k landed and complied for a legnum if i was to import anyway?

Well you could import a "normal" run of the mill legnum for about $12k for a facelift type S at the moment, but it wont be black manual & recaros. $15-16k would be my "guess" at the price for one of those. PM IronChef to see his thoughts on cost to import the above.

This isn't the car that Iron Chef has been hinting about in the other thread is it? :)

nah its not that one. I found this somewhere else.

Hmmm i was worried that it is a bit expensive. They said they would not go below 16K, even 16K he said no.

Type-S manual? Someone did a conversion on it?

I paid similar money (2 years ago) locally for a very clean 1998 series 1 manual without recaros, 68000 kms. So if the car's in decent shape, I'd say go for it.

The price sounds reasonable for a car already in Australia. If it all checks out, don't think about it for too long.

AFAIK you can get Legnums in Type-S and manual from factory. It was the galants that only had auto Type-S'

I am going to get it looked at "compression test and mechanical check" and it has not been registered before.

Thats what i am worried about. It got to melbourne on Friday.

I am intending on going there this afternoon to ask a few more questions.

See import papers (orginal cost, auction rating) What else should i be looking for.
Hopefully they have cleaned it so i can check for stratches

price seems right.. but show me the engine bay,

particularly the following..

bottom end of the engine.. see if there's oil leaks
cam belts - wanna know if it's still genuine mitsubishi
i wanna see how dirty the actual engine bay is.. if its been degreased.. look at it THOROUGHLY...
show me the engine internals from the oil filler cap..

then I'll tell you what I really think.. goodluck...

With the whole checking for scratches bit that can be difficult. If the cars been polished and waxed it's pretty hard to spot smaller imperfections, I find it's usually only after the car has had all the wax washed off that you can properly spot most scratches/paint damage. Still you can check for bigger problems in the paintwork, no wax or polish can hide a deep scratch or bad paint problem.

Well i wont be able to look again until wednesday.

But over the phone i found out it was auction grade 4
Couldn't tell me what the auction price was.
K's are genuine based on the fact that when it was registered the kms written down everytime are consistent.

SO yeah. im pretty keen now after seeing what Chef just posted

If it has the grey recaro's then I would buy it instantly, ignoring other possible issues (minor scratching on the body, clutch on it's way out, etc)

If they are the red recaro's, well I'd want it to be in good condition at that price!
