Hey Guys,

Just wondering what oils you have been using in your legnums/galants with the 6A13TT....

I see the Supercheap Auto's have a sale on for Castrol Sport Fully Sythetic 5W-30 about 20 buks off at $30- from about $50...

Was thinking of getting one or two bottles while its on special, just wanted some opinions to what you guys use?

I use to us a Motul oil...but its so expensive!!

Thats not bad at all. Any big brand 5w30 or 0w30 will be ok, as long as it is fully synth.

I haven't done an oil change yet myself but the ClubVR4 lads have several threads recommending Amsoil. Not sure where you get that from over here.

cheers

You can get it at most mechanics/auto trans specialists, I haven't found it sold at any auto parts places as yet.

I bought a litre of Auto Trans Fluid for $20 (although if I could be bothered driving I could of got some for $15) so it's on the dear side but all I've talked to rave about the stuff...

Oh and I asked the guy how much he'd do 10ltr's for and he said $200. (Nice discount :p)

I should reiterate this was for the Auto Trans Fluid so I don't know how much the Engine Oil would be...

In my R31 I use Castrol Edge 25W50. I wanted it nice and heavy as oil temps often get near or over 100 degrees. That way it is less resistant to turn to a water type density when really hot.

Haven't had a chance to do a change in the leggy yet. It's on the list with 40 million other things. Will no doubt go for a 10w40 or so.

What does the second number in the oil jargon mean, what is the difference between Mobil 1 10W 30 and Castrol edge 10W 60.

As Paul said, it relates to Viscosity ('thickness' of the liquid). The higher the number, the thicker it is. Lower numbers are generally better for colder climates and cooler running engines, higher numbers for hotter temps (both ambient and dependant on your vehicle's cooling).

The owner's manual of every car will list recommended oil grades for various temperatures and conditions.

In a 10w eg.W= winter simply means oil must have a certain viscosity a tlow temp the lower the w the better the oils low temps/cold start performance. so it can depend where you live some may need a lower visco oil.
In a 10w-40means it must fall within certain visco limits at 100 deg.

This is a fixed limit and oil that end in 40 must achieve these limits. The lower the number the thinner the oil eg 5w-30 at 100 deg
Handbooks specify what's needed. Mel
