I'm out in craigieburn, had a heavy stint of rain, back yard is flooded now, but no hail to report (as yet) might go out for a swim...

Scrap my first post, I did cop some damage

Rite in the middle of the boot is a nasty dent from one of the bigger hits. I couldn't see it when it was still wet from all the rain, but noticed it yesterday when I was filling up at the petrol station.

Insurance job here I come...

I was just looking through some reader pics at the Herald Sun site...

Ok, so who was this?! Anyone here?

That would be my car - and its not good. Every upward facing panel is dented (bonnet, roof, tailgate, front guards, top of doors). All the rubber around the windscreen, bottom of windows, roof gutters is 'chipped' like it was brittle plastic (half 10c coin chunks missing). All of the 'wind guards' on the windows are cracked, and the passenger side is missing a large chunk - snapped off and floated away.

I was parked behind the new Melbourne Theatre Company on the street. We were taking my grandmother in law to see a show when the storm hit. They evacuated the place when it started leaking from the roof through their electrical systems. Not much fore-thought as they had a whole heap of blind people to herd across the street (similar to the flooded one in the pic) to the underground Arts Centre car park. That's when we decided it was time to go our own way (hadn't noticed that much damage as it was still poring, but the hail had stopped).

The city traffic was nuts (if you hadn't guessed), but there was nowhere to pull over safely - all the gutters were overflowing so centre of the road was safest. We eventually stopped in a Bella drive through coffee shop and I almost started crying when I saw what had happened. We hung around watching the traffic for 2 hours, then attempted to get home. Headed out towards Albert Park, but got turned around by Police, then down St Kilda Rd towards the city (the only way we could go), and then got turned around again. Finally got onto Toorak Road and headed home.

Attempted to ring the insurance company on Sunday at 10am (when they opened) and the phone hung up immediately. I tried again at 4pm and hardly had to wait - the poor guy on the other end sounded like his fingers were getting a real workout on the keyboard that day. They said get one quote (normally they ask for two) and then they'll send out an assessor. They rang back on Monday and said don't bother with the quote (I guess the panel beaters got jack of doing millions of quotes), instead come to their assessment centre on Thursday. Tomorrow I get to find out whether they write the car off and how much to buy it back.

Really I don't want the car written off as I will loose money (mods never help the cause here). I'd love to have it fixed, but it doesn't seem likely. I'd want the dents removed, not filled with bog - and sometime this year would be nice.

I'll post some photos at some stage.

Ouch Chris, that's terrible news. I had a paintless dent removal come out last year to remove some minor dings and he mentioned that he could fix hail damage too. The main problem he said was getting access to the back of the roof panel and the lining would have to be taken out first. Much better idea than filling with bog as a panel beater will happily slap all over it.

Sorry to hear Chris. Hope it all works out for the best. I was in the city too during the hail storm. Fortunately i had paid for parking in a secure car pack so my car was not harmed.

Here are some photos of my car. They dents on the roof show up clearly in the photo, but trust me, they are there.

This morning the insurance assessment centre said there are too many dents in the roof skin and bonnet, and they're too close together, to be pulled out by their 'dent specialists'. They said the bonnet and roof skin would have to be replaced. Then they sent me to a panel shop to get a quote (now waiting for them to get back to me). The insurance company thought the damage could be repaired without writing the car off - but that depends on whether they can get a new roof skin and bonnet.
