Has anyone bought rear speakers which are a direct fit into the stock mounting holes in the parcel shelf?

My answer is to run no rear speakers... I have just recently converted the missus to this when I put her new sub in the car.

I only run components in the front doors & a single sub and it gets loud enough. No idea why you would want 2 sets of speakers behind you especially if a sub is involved.

When I put the new sub/amp into the missus's car, the new sub was "quiet", but after unplugging the rears its got louder as the rears were cancelling out the sub frequencies due to them being pushed up under load.

How do you find this setup I found rear doors (in a sedan) as opposed to rear fill (shelf) dragged the sound stage backward in my previous ride :-/

Sounds like rear speakers aren't the best idea. I have removed them and may just not put any in after all. I bought some cheap JVCs. Are the Alpine Type Rs a direct fit in the back?

Only reason i went there was a quest for a surround setup capable of DVD/Dolby audio.

Unless you have an EQ and plan on tuning to get it right I wouldn't bother, but if your into that (SQ) you probably have other priorities anyway :)

Besides the driver sits in the front after all.

I just can't get used to the "No sound from behind me" effect when I fade to front only. The set of Kicker speakers I got sound nice though.

Thanks for the input, guys. I shall drive around without rear speakers today and see if I notice any difference. I do have a subwoofer, so I'm guessing it will improve things a bit.

If you do get/fit them play around with the fader/balance, it all comes down to personal taste but will be interested to see what you settle on

In a sedan you need to open the rear of the car up to the boot to help get the bass into the cabin. you can also remove the factory sub plate from the parcel tray as well. :)

If your getting no bass with all the system running, you might have a phase problem. I would try wiring the sub backwards. Just switch the wires around and have a listen.

Checked all that Scott, been at this game for a while. I know its because the rear speakers are being pushed up by the sub. You can actually hear it happening. Its one of the issues oh having a sedan.. ;)

Cool, I thought I would add this info in . I work in a car audio store in Brisbane. Sometimes it work a treat. I have not played with a galant sedan yet. We have similar issues with commodores. Another thing I would try repositioning the sub . Maybe try moving the box so the sub faces the side of the car. I would lengthen the wire and try it in different positions in the boot.

Other options are to try crossing the rear speakers off at a higher frequency. Just throwing some ideas out.

I hear ya. :) With the torneo the rears were running off the headunit(cheap jvc), so no way to use a high pass filter on it.

That makes it harder to test. Good luck with a fix mate.

Good front components and a single sub is all you need, who needs rear fill!

Yeah that's true. I have faded my rears out . Don't even notice they're not there.

We have started tunning system differently at work for the past couple month. We use specialised equipment to get the most out of the system. I have been tunning audio systems by ear for the past 15 years and the new way we do it has definitely made a difference in sound.

I might try this new procedure on Christians car when I do the alarm . I'll keep every one updated.
