I found one shop where I was really happy with the guys work and attention to detail. He was brilliant and would only do what you needed, so you knew you wouldn't be ripped off. Really honest.... and then he left for an electricians apprenticeship :( Haven't been able to find anyone like him since so end up doing all my own stuff.

So if we could get a resident expert that would be awesome!

Peter , you have a great job with this thread . Alot of great information.

Taylor , if you already have the r types coaxials I would fit them to the rear & purchase some good front speakers ( maybe the r type components SPR60c or the focal PS165 ) . I would at minimum fit a good amp for the fronts & sound deaden the doors to some extent.

Well my sound system got installed today, absolutely stocked with the sound! No rattles either, I guess the sound deadening paid off :D

+ the alpine cde153 is bloody fantastic, I have had a few head units in my time but this one is so far my favourite

They are a great unit. Have you downloaded the tune it app? It's an alpine equaliser app that you download and set on your phone then bluetooth the setting to the stereo. I have not played with it yet as you need to make an account , but I don't have a alpine.

I thought I would also say that I have worked a specialist car audio store in Brisbane for 15 years . If anyone needs a good price on gear we have ill try my best to give you all a fantastic price. I also do weekend fitting if anyone in Brisbane needs anything done. Just pm me if your interested in getting anything done.

6.5" in the front, yes.

6.5" in the rear doors, no. Galants don't have a spot for rear speakers in the rear doors; theirs is in the parcel shelf.

6x9s in the parcel shelf, no. There's a metal frame under the shelf that has been pre-cut to fit 6" or 6.5" speakers. Most 6x9s wont fit a 6" hole. However there is also a pre-cut 8" hole in the centre of the shelf that looks to be a factory option for a sub. Personally, I would just go some basic 6" speakers in the factory parcel shelf location and try to somehow fit a 8" or 10" sub in the centre of the shelf seeing it's quite sturdy.

So I have all my audio gear ready to go in. Some questions.

I have a 4 gauge wire from the battery to the amp. Where is the best place to go through the firewall? And what gauge wiring should I use from the amp to the speakers?

Cheers guys.

I can't remember the gauge of wire (it should be obvious if you know what you're doing), but it was nearly impossible for me to find a spot in the firewall to run the power cable. I ended up going through the front left wheel arch. You'll see next to the battery there is a hole to inside the front left fender.

Take off the wheel and remove the wheel liner. There is actually a nice clear path to inside the car under the liner, and there are already factory wires taking this route. The only tricky bit is getting the power cable back into the cabin through the rubber plug next to the ECU. Use a coat hanger to create a path and pull the cable through.

I think I went through the wheel liner as well, but can't remember... I have done a few cars now and am loosing track LOL

For the speaker wire, don't stress too much, just about any average figure 8 speaker cable will be fine.

You might have to run new wires from the headunit as as far as I can remember with my delooming the galants dont have speaker wires to the rear doors.

Yeah I thought I would have to. But was kinda hoping mitsubishi hid some wiring in the pillars or something and someone may ok found it by now.

They did do it in later door looms, but not in the earlier ones according to asa. You could get the door looms from a leggie and run those to the headunit?
