Yeah I will threaten with fair trading if they wont do it properly this stuff shouldnt happen. The guy also said they are gonna stop rebuilding performance cars boxes cause they keep coming back for warranty and that includes vr4's so that is saying something

Would have been nice to know they have had boxes returned before you went in there, hope it works out for you.

If you've gotta pay I'd probably be taking it to someone with model specific knowledge. Maybe have a chat with Carmen Imports and see if they recommend anybody, considering they're specialists.

Go down and have a look for yourself, take photos and post them up here. It sounds very odd, the diffs shouldn't die like that. Here's some pics to let you know what they are claiming is the problem. There's not really a crown gear as such, the closest thing to that physical description would be part #8 in the diagram below. Although the function that is usually done by a crown gear would be part #1 (even though it's not actually a crown in ours, Google it for examples).

It sounds super fucking sus that they're blaming another part that would oh-so-conveniently get them out of paying for a new rebuild out of their pocket.
I know nothing about autos, but DEFINITELY get some pics and throw them up here.

You have to be doing something special to break the final drive (which is what I am assuming they are talking about). Either that or it has to have been put together wrong. I would think the latter.

Well my suspicions are that hey had low pressure due to incorrect installation of seals, 5th gear was fine, so they raised the pressures to compinsate which is y 5th shifted very hard under any extra acceleration which in turn has cause extra pressure issue inside the box giving me my shifting issues, so the first real time I open the throttle 6months down the track something had to give... Just my take on wat I think has happened with it and cause of all my issues...
Im going to go down and inspect it all myself and post pics tonight as there is no way im gonna pay to rebuild it again...

If I cant claim warranty for repairs im going manual sick of the issues with the auto box even if my so called "repairers" are the issue I miss my manual trans :(

Surely a warranty on a rebuilt transmission covers the entire transmission, and not simply the part that originally failed.

Because in rebuilding it they have removed, inspected and refitted or replaced every part in there, so it's not like it was something that was never worked on by them during the rebuild process.

If it was something totally different that failed, like your transfer case or AYC, sure, it's a bit more understandable they could claim it's an unrelated issue.

Well apparently its my diff but I apparently didnt give them authority when I got the car there to pull it apart and find out the issue... He said he would have to pull to box out etc even tho I told them to do it in car just remove the wheel and gaurding... That was wat I said to him and gave him authority to do it... So they listened to it and said it was my diff... Cut a long story short I gotta decide, manual conversion or rebuild it myself?? Either way I have to do it on one weekend and ill need a hand from someone that atleast knows a bit about wat they are doing.. Any takers?

Btw I recorded the convo and donno how to upload it

Yeah after talking to them today they made it clear they wont do it under warranty ill have to pay for the whole thing... They were very arragent to me and even gave me my keys back and told me to go with the car cause I was apparently accusing them of not repairing the box properly when I was asking wat else it could be, how could they be sure just listening to it and also bout the issues I had been complaining bout in the last 6 months.... I would say my best bet is to pull it apart myself with the assistance of a qualified mechanic and written and photographic evidence of damages to the box and causes then hit them up for compensation its pretty clear they dont want to do it..
They still have my car cause I have no where to bring it and I couldnt.take it by myself as I was so I talked my way around to making him keep the car there till I decide wat direction ill go in
I should have just done the manual conversion when it first stuffed up... :(

That's bullshit mate, I hate people like that it really gives me the shits. I hope you can sort something out,as you said you may just have to get the box opened up at another place, make sure it's very reputable, and get them to show you what's broken or just plain shit house then take that back to them. Good luck mate, I feel for you.

Ok so talked to fair trading and now I have a few.choices to make..1. Get them to strip it and repair it, if the find a reason y if failed and was their fault it will cost me nothing, or if its something not covered by warranty im out of pocket close to $4k so need to get money somehow. 2. I do the manual conversion and forget about it, take a few weeks and cost me close to $2.5k and my time on top. 3. Do conversion and get a report from another trans specialist to find they are at fault and get reimbursted close to $4k or find its a part not covered and be out of pocket a few hungie for the inspection report (will also be harder to claim back after the conversion without gearbox needed in my car). 4. Bring it in the car somewhere else and find issue, if warranty then have to prove it and get them to cover it or no warranty still up for close to $4k repairs....

So basicly If I can fight it will be harder after conversion but ill also not have my car for alot longer or I give up cut my losses and move on to a manual and be happy... Either way ill sell the car if auto still and buy a manual so will probly loose a few $$$ that way or just spend the money to convert hmmmm

Wats ur opinions guy? Im sorta stuck at the momentmoment and only can fight them if they dont honour their warranty
