I have entertained the idea of a supercharger?
I dont think the 2.5 would hav a lot of torque if it wasn't for the two tiny turbos coming on so early, think it would be like 5000 before ya spooled a big single and it would have a massive lag issue IMHO
Its always going to be a matter of application though, and not many people have gone for a huge single yet that i know of. I will be very interested to see how my relatively small one turns out. But bear in mind there are some advantages over a single(not that i am biased). In terms of air flow, the simple piping, in-out-Throttle body set up is a LOT shorter than the stock mess of piping, and has a heap less bends. I went with 2.5" piping to help keep the volume of the piping down for this very reason.
And as for the exhaust side, by having a 3" straight from the turbo (flange is still 2.5" though..), it should be able to flow more freely than the stock downpipe arrangement ever could.
The unknown quantity for me, is the huge and long exhaust manifold to the turbo.. This may cause some lag, along with the big intercooler. But it has been pointed out to me that when a lot of the subaru guys convert to singles on the EJ20's they end up with a much longer system, and on a 2.0l engine..
Hopefully i wont end up with an on/off type car, and i am fairly sure it will be close to the stock spool up, but hopefully in another month i can say for sure
If it is crap, then the least i can do is stick a monster on there, and see what it can do before it dies..
Also, looking from the mitsi Td05 10T 16g compressor map, the single 16g at peak should only flow close to 10-15% more than the pair of td03s, but for a longer period of the rev range, and sustain it to the redline, but at the price of some lag.
