Hehe i guess we're more talking about the 8G Legnum and Galant VR-4's here.
The older HH's and Evo Zero's are extremely popular with the younger guys.
I was actually going to purchase a genuine RS Evo Zero but chose the Legnum instead for longer trips, practicality and the wagons look mean as.

I've just recently turned 25 and had my fair share of sports cars in the past. After a while, i guess you get sick of trying to cramp your friends into the back of a 2 door. Plus, when you get to our age, the chicks prefer comfort, space and a smooth ride. That's where our Galant's and Legnum's come in ;)

Cops dont look twice, but other people on the road do! Got a few curious looks from a car full of P platers, gave them a little show off the lights ;)

I am 44 and feel like in my 20s when I drive my car. Get heaps of attention from young people. More than old ones actually. Problem is...everyone wants to race me..lol

I'm 25 and I've always had small cars. The one before the Legnum, which I've kept as a weekender, is an S13...

I decided on the Legnum because the Silvia is a pig to drive. Built for circuit the thing is not really good on the road as a daily so something more comfy was the choice. Looked at the Caldina first, but the 2.5ltrs of the Legnum and the twin turbos won out in the end. Plus as a tow car, the larger size and bigger engine would help.

And since I got it on Friday (as it spent a week in the shop since the day I got it) I'm positive I made the right choice.

As wagons go, the Subaru WRX wagons.... yep, the general public know what's going on. But the Legnums, StageAs, Caldinas on the other hand ;)

Civilised Executive shuttle one moment, rip-snorting rocket ship the next.

Indestructible.. i thinks mines been thrashed in its past life :(
owned it since i was 17 and its got 240,000 on the clock tho..
if it can pull me thru till i get off my Ps (3months) then its done its job, hasnt cost me anything yet, even buying price was $2000.. love it..

Iv bin saving for an 8th gen galant for a while now, and every now and again i think.. mayb an S15 would b good..
-Parts are everywhere
-mods are cheap and easy
-6 speed
-Turbo Flutter
-Everyone has worked on a SR20det B4

But im scared ill write one off cause of the turbo hit and throttle control needed round a corner.. Plus id just b another cop magnet

Might have to take both for a test drive and c which one i feel most comfortable in.. Im 21 btw

Check out the insurance on an S15.. It was around $3500 a year with JustCar for me at both 20 and 21, and they were the only people who'd insure me with an S14/S15.. That would make up for the cheap/available parts bit!

The insurance for a VR4 was less than HALF of that..

i like cars that arnt a cop magnet, and are a bit of a sleeper. something unique, and something which is genuinely a quality car and nice to drive. vr4 did it for me. it was either one of these or a 4 door r34. and yeah the cop magnet of a skyline swayed me.

I had an s14a before and it was a pain in the arse for practicality. I play drums in several bands, and let me tell you its a prick of a thing loading a drum kit into a coupe as small as the 200sx. Not to mention my girlfriend hated having to sit in the back seat when my kit was in there.

I wanted a car that was practical, but still had the goodies under the hoodie to boogie.

I got a Legnum.

I also wanted a car that wasn't a cop magnet. I got way to much attention in the s14. Problem is my plans for it are going to make it a cop magnet.

I wanted a bit of luxury, but knew that I would end up kicking myself for paying big dollars and getting little in the way of perfromance and thrill. Was really tempted by a later generation Liberty.

A few of my mates have Legnums and the one I got popped up at the right price (half of what I had to spend) so I jumped on it. Manual, sunroof, low k's power to boot and a boot! I have only ever driven wagons so thats a plus too.

Biggest seller for me was the 4WD and AYC. Don't really want to get myself into to much trouble in my first turbo manual.

I'm 22 but consider my self an old fart. Not sure about bloody kids these days.

What bands do you play for Macca? If you don't mind my asking.

Hold up...you're a drummer with a girlfriend?

Just kidding :) I share your pain. Went from an R33 to the Legnum - I'm a pianist, so I carry an 88-note keyboard around in a roadcase + amp + other kit. Getting that into the Skyline with a passenger was nigh on impossible.

So I left her at home.:p

Wouldn't go back to a coupe...Am currently looking around for a bit of American Muscle in the form of a '65 Mustang. *hides* Just as a toy though!

Having owned both the S15 and the VR-4, I can give you a first hand account and review.

The questions to ask yourself are these - what is it that you want from your car and what do you want your car to do?

If you want an all round, practical and refined performance package with safe, predictable grip, then the VR-4 is hard to beat.

If you're after a highly modified and sleek looking machine where you'll kick the tail out often and you care not for practicality, then the S15 is the car for you.

Let's look at the 2 cars side by side:

a) In stock form, the VR-4 is the quicker and torquier car off the line and in most real world driving conditions.

b) In modifed form, you'll spend far less on the S15 to get far more power. The S15 is has much greater aftermarket support. In fact, 200kw+ at the wheels is only a a few bolt ons away.

c) The VR-4 is much more practical and useable as a daily, for long trips etc. It can seat 5 and has a full sized boot. The S15's rear seats are for short trips and for very small people. The boot is small.

d) The S15 is the sleeker, sportier and sexier looking car, hands down. The VR-4 is the sleeper / stealthier car that will give you fewer hassles from the cops, fully sik knobs etc.

e) The VR-4's handling is more predictable and forgiving. The S15 requires a lot more skill to drive fast and if you get it wrong, it won't be pretty, with oversteer only a right foot away. The S15 is a hand full in wet or poor road conditions.

f) The S15's 6 speed box is actually not strong. Lots of serious modifiers ditch the 6 speed and replace it with the 5 speed from the S14. The VR-4's (manual) box is a sturdier unit.

g) A powerful turbo RWD for a young bloke will mean the insurer will bend you over a barrel (I was quoted $16k a year for my S15). An AWD turbo import isn't great for insurance either but many of us have managed to get reasonably priced policies from specialist insurers (Just Car, Shannons etc).

In short, if it were me, I'd take the VR-4 if I was after a stock or lightly modified car for the road and for most road conditions. If I was to do track time, extensive mods or just wanted to get sideways often, then the S15 is the better tool for the job.

So, question - what do you want from your car?

Definitely try and drive both cars on the same day and in the same condition (i.e. stock for stock, modded for modded).

23, i was more curios on the predictability!!! One of my friends used to have one!!! Fell in love with it after the first time I drove it!! I have driven S13s quite a few times. And had a R33 Skyline then and 98 WRX after but nothing feels better than the VR4 that i have now!!!!!
